A beautiful five-decade Catholic rosary with a distinctive story connecting Saint Columba, Iona, Ireland and Scotland. Designed and handmade in Scotland, this rosary combines dark oval maple beads, hand-knotted cord and original bronze metalwork created specifically for this collection. The Saint Columba center and Iona cross are created by this Scottish artisan. The front of the reversible medal depicts Saint Columba with a book and crozier, surrounded by the bird, boat, church and water associated with his life and journey to Iona. The reverse carries a raised map of Scotland within flowing Celtic interlace and botanical details. The long bronze cross is an original interpretation of the historic high crosses of Iona, particularly Saint Martin’s Cross. Its ringed form, sculpted bosses and deeply textured panels give the piece strong visual presence while remaining tactile and comfortable to use in prayer. Maple, bronze and cord were chosen as warm, humble and enduring materials. The rosary is substantial enough to feel reassuring in the hand but remains relatively light at approximately 2oz. Saint Columba—also known as Colum Cille—has enduring significance across Ireland and Scotland. This makes the rosary a meaningful choice for prayer, pilgrimage, 1st communion, confirmation, reception into the Church, ordination, remembrance and other important moments of faith.
